Q and A with Jason Bystrak: What’s New at Cloud Summit 2014?

We’re just a couple of months away from this year’s Ingram Micro Cloud Summit, the world’s largest cloud event for the IT channel. Yesterday, I had an opportunity to speak with Jason Bystrak, the Director of Cloud for the Americas at Ingram Micro, and he shared some insights as to what attendees can expect at this year’s event. Following is a highlight of our conversation:

Q: The last three Cloud Summits were in Arizona — Why the switch to Florida this year?

Jason: The reason is that this event is becoming much more of global for Ingram Micro partners and traveling to Miami, Florida is a lot easier for our partners in Europe, Latin America, and Canada.  Plus, we chose a gorgeous property, the Westin Diplomat, which offers tons of meeting space and can better accommodate the larger crowd we’re expecting at this year’s event.

Q: What kinds of breakout sessions can we expect this year?

Jason: Business development workshops are one of the top reasons why people attend Cloud Summit. Just like with past shows, we make a very concerted effort to bring in industry experts, successful peers, and Ingram Micro Associates with channel IT expertise and best practices to share. We’re also making sure we have content within each functional area of the business, so you’ll find workshops tailored to people in marketing, sales, finance, or executive roles.

Some of the topics we’ll tackle this year include:
a. pricing and packaging cloud solutions
b. financial planning
c. hiring salespeople to sell cloud services and setting up the proper compensation plan, and
d. building a sales and marketing plan

We’re really excited about the industry experts coming to share that information. (click here to see a preview of this year’s keynote speakers).

Q: Can you tell us about any special announcements we’ll see at the show?

Jason: We’re starting to see some distinctions among channel partners regarding their current level of cloud familiarity and expertise, and we’re going to be announcing some helpful resources that are appropriate for their current level. For example, we have customers who are brand new to cloud who will be a good fit for a prepackaged offering we’ll announce at the show that includes recruitment strategies, operational tools, and other helpful startup information. We also have other partners already dabbling in selling cloud solutions and services, but in need of a little help adding the finishing touches to their program to accelerate their cloud sales. And finally, there are the 10% who really understand cloud, they’re already selling at least two cloud services, but they need help figuring out how to scale their cloud business and how to reach a wider customer base.

In addition to the programs I just mentioned, we’ll be announcing new channel programs, plus new ways channel companies can engage with Ingram Micro and earn revenue from the cloud.
