Dan Shapero Named to CompTIA Board

danshaperoThe Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), a non-profit helping advance the IT industry forward, recently named Dan Shapero, Director of Global Cloud Marketing, Ingram Micro Cloud, to its board of directors. Dan’s appointment places him alongside many other leaders who are shaping the industry through advocacy, philanthropy, and education development.

As leader of the Global Cloud Marketing division, Dan Shapero oversees Ingram Micro’s global cloud marketing strategy and plans as well as working with the company’s regional and local cloud business to execute the strategy and create growth and recognition in the marketplace. His prior experience includes a track record of driving revenue growth and devising go-to-market strategies for technology companies and startups. We had the opportunity to sit down with Dan and chat with him about his role at CompTIA, the cloud industry, and Ingram Micro.

Ingram Micro Cloud: Tell us about your role with CompTIA. What will you be doing?

Dan Shapero: As a member of the CompTIA board of directors, I will be serving on the audit and investment community where I will be working on planning and budgeting. This is the same committee I chaired when I was on CompTIA’s board last.

IMC: What is CompTIA’s role in the greater technology space and how does it impact change in technology?

DS: CompTIA has been around for the past 35 plus years and understands the technology landscape. It was originally brought together to create a conversation between IT vendors and partners and as it evolved, the organization added in vendor-neutral technology certifications, philanthropic initiatives to address the shortage of IT talent, as well as an advocacy arm to make sure IT industry needs are met in Washington D.C. For example, when I was part of the CompTIA board while at ClikCloud, I testified before Congress on how small businesses are threatened by cyber-attacks and advocated for national data breach notification reform. Advocacy however is not just national. A lot of what we do also happens on the state and local level too.

IMC: Why is your appointment to the board of directors relevant to Ingram Micro cloud resellers?

DS: Through my appointment to the CompTIA board of directors, I plan to advocate for more channel education in cloud. Channel resellers will notice a difference for future Cloud University events with CompTIA involvement in the curriculum. Additionally, it will give me a chance to push development for educational initiatives by CompTIA like the Cloud Trustmark+.

IMC: Tell us more about the CompTIA Cloud Trustmark+. Why might it be right for our resellers?

DS: The Cloud Trustmark+ is a vendor neutral business-level IT credential designed to qualify and differentiate vendors who offer cloud solutions through IT service providers. This technology Trustmark identifies businesses that have committed to providing quality support, infrastructure, and interoperability for their cloud solutions. This Trustmark is right for resellers who are interested in growing their partner base but want to also work with others who have a clear strategy in mind.
